Business Processes Management (BPM)
We can describe business process management (BPM) as a way of modeling, controlling and monitoring all processes of an organization. It is an effective method that can be used in order to be sure that processes are used efficiently and effectively particularly during crisis days or when it is requested to reduce organizational costs.
The main objective of Ensemble, BPM software of Bimser, is to define, monitor and continuously improve the processes of organization and it is highly important to automate these processes through business processes automation. This is a tree-formed list, in which the structure of business processes are determined and their levels are shown. Its most important feature is identification of hierarchical relations between processes. It is achieved by breaking down the processes into main process, sub-process and detailed process or into level 1 process, level 2 process, etc. The organization’s process structure must be configured first when starting Business Processes Management in order to proceed to the following steps.
Process Information Card
This is the document that forms the identification card of a process by combining several components, such as the purpose, scope, input, output, units involved, key performance indicators, risks, checkpoints and documents of each process after the structure of processes is defined.
This is the most important step of Business Processes Management. It is composed of diagrams showing how the processes are executed, the order of activities and relationships between units. Although there are different process modeling methods in literature, such as BPMN, Cross Functional, EPC, it is also possible to configure organization specific process modeling methodologies. Process models show how a process is or must be performed.
BPMN, the abbreviation of Business Process Model and Notation, is a standard process modeling language. Processes drawn by BPMN format, an XML based process modeling language, can be visualized by being exported to any application that supports this notation, which is the biggest advantage of a universal language. Current version of BPMN is 2.0.1.
After the process is defined and modeled, its efficiency and success must also be measured and monitored and various criteria, called metrics or indicators, are used for this purpose. These indicators do also provide information on how the process can be improved. Although there are different types of indicators, such as quality, productivity, input and output, all these indicators provide information about the process. They are monitored periodically, a target is set for them and their periodical values are used as inputs for generating relevant reports.
